A network of jewelry thieves was broken up by the Guardia Civil on Tuesday with seven people arrested in ‘Operation Windmill.’
The ring operated throughout the country and following their detention four men and three women were charged with 17 offenses of the theft of jewelry with an estimated value of over one million euros.
In Valencia the local operation focused on the towns of Aspe, Alicante and Jávea.
The investigation began last January following a theft committed in a jewelry store located in a shopping center in the town of Colmenar Viejo.
The members of the network all had false identities and employed elements of disguise to avoid being recognized by security cameras. They were said to be highly mobile although their main activities were concentrated on the east coast, where they took advantage of the crowds of elderly tourists and holidaymakers.
