Three officers from the Guardia Civil were killed on Sunday morning, when their helicopter crashed in the Polinosa area of Maraña, north of León.
The officers were part of a mountain rescue team involved in the rescue of a group of people, when their helicopter touched the steep Cliffside of the mountain and plummeted to the ground.
The accident occurred at around 09:00, and a full emergency was declared to try to rescue those on board, whilst also attempting to rescue the original group of climbers.
The identities of those who were killed has not yet been released, but a full investigation is underway.
