Once again the Annual Celebration of Carols in the Square brought plenty of color and Christmas cheer to Torrevieja’s Plaza de la Constitución

Once again the Annual Celebration of Carols in the Square brought plenty of color and Christmas cheer to Torrevieja’s Plaza de la Constitución on Friday evening.

Directed by Julie Schofield, the Phoenix Band, composed mainly of retired expatriates, were ‘note perfect’ as they led over five hundred participants from across the region, many dressed in traditional Santa hats, through a dozen of the season’s most popular festive hymns.

The XII Edition of this unique concert, was held, as in previous years, on the front steps of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, and was attended by the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, together with councilors Joaquín Albaladejo, Rosario Martinez and Luis María Pizana.

They were accompanied by a choir composed of more than a hundred choristers made up of many different nationalities. This year also saw, for the very first time, the participation of the Torrevieja Municipal School Choir, under the direction of Selena Cansino.

On completion of the concert many of the audience moved inside the church where they celebrated the Novena in honor of the Immaculate Conception, which was attended by several priests from a variety of nationalities and religious orders.
