The councillor for the coast of Orihuela, Martina Scheurer, has reached out to a possible solution to the construction of an auditorium on the Orihuela Costa, through the application for funding from Europe.
The councillor has this week discovered that the Economic and Financial Affairs Council, more commonly known as ECOFIN, are looking for projects which require funding in excess of one million euro which will be of socio and community benefit.
As one of the oldest configurations of the Council of the European Union, composed of the economics and finance ministers of the 28 European Union member states, as well as Budget Ministers, the chance of funding being granted is quite slim, on account of the number of applications they are likely to receive.
As the deadline for applications was extended by a week, Scheurer has submitted a request for funding for not only the construction of a new auditorium, but also for furnishing and equipping the centre. At the same time, the councillor has also submitted numerous other proposals, in the hope that the Orihuela Costa may benefit in some way.
Of course with neighbouring Torrevieja already having an auditorium which stands mostly unused, just 10 kilometres away, that might go against the Orihuela Costa plan, and although it may well be a slim chance that the approval will be granted, it is at least some chance that the auditorium might be built at not at the expense of the tax payer, a chance which has never previously been explored.
