Lawyer and social activist Julio Vicente Mateo and María Concepción Bernal have both opened their campaigns for the leadership of the Orihuela Branch of the new political party Podemos that is currently gaining in popularity across the country.
They say that they both want "a new way of doing politics" through citizen participation. The winner will be known on January 2
The pair has until Christmas Day to enlist the support of local party members with voting taking place between 26-30 December.
The results will be announced two days later, on January 2.
Julio Vicente Mateo, who is the clear favourite to win, has announced the names of the team of people assisting with his campaign among which are a nurse, a businessman, a retiree, a professional musician and an autonomous worker. The campaign slogan is ‘Seguro que Podemos'(Sure we can).
