The Interior Ministry inaugurated a new intelligent border control system at Barcelona’s El-Prat airport on Monday, which will shortly be installed at Alicante-Elche airport as part of a rollout to locations where more cross-border transfers take place.
The aim is to streamline the airport transit process for passengers with digitized documents and works through facial recognition and fingerprint detectors, as well as reading the data on the passport.
“This is to facilitate access to the country without compromising safety”, said Interior Minister Jorge Fernández Díaz, during the presentation of the new cabins, whilst pointing out that “We can do better control with fewer people”.
