There is a report of a sexual assault with penetration in the province of Alicante about every 27 hours. In 2025, the Ministry of the Interior’s annual crime report reported 111,263 crimes and misdemeanours. This is 6.3 percent more than the year before and more than five points higher than the national average, which witnessed a 0.8 percent rise. All the crimes listed in the report rose in the province of Alicante last year, except for intended homicides and completed murders, which went from 21 in 2024 to 16 in 2025, a drop of 23.8%.
On the other side, sexual attacks that involved penetration experienced the biggest rise in the province. The number of reported cases went up by 23.5%, from 221 to 273. These 273 reported rapes are part of the 1,088 offences against sexual freedom, which went up by eight percent overall. In the city of Alicante, the number of rapes went up even more, from 51 to 75 reported instances, a rise of 47.1%.
Sexual crimes went up by 2.3% across the country, which is much less than in the province. The report says that this steady rise should be linked to “active awareness policies and a decrease in social and personal tolerance toward this type of crime.” This makes victims more likely to report these crimes and give their cases to the Security Forces, which lowers the number of people who don’t report these crimes.
A lot of cases have been solved
It’s crucial to recall, though, that in 2024, offences against sexual freedom grew by 5.1% in Alicante. Within that category, sexual assaults with penetration only rose by half a percentage point. Police said that even though they can’t stop this kind of crime, they virtually always catch the people who do it and solve the case.
Cybercrimes, which make up over 20% of all crimes in the province, went up by 11.7% (20,006 instances). Regular crimes, on the other hand, went up by only 5.2% (91,257 offences and misdemeanours). The Interior Ministry study says that online frauds, which have 17,175 incidents, are still the most common type of cybercrime.
In the province of Alicante, attempted murders, assaults, and affrays also went up last year. In the first case, the number of attempted murders and homicides went up by 20.8%, from 53 to 64. In the second case, there were 1,088 attacks and fights, which is 11.3% more than in 2014.
Robberies with violence and threats (2,275 cases, a 4% increase), burglaries (7,205 cases, a 3.1% increase), thefts (28,241 cases, a 7.1% increase), and vehicle thefts (1,415 cases, a 4.4% increase) are the crimes that people are most worried about. The number of drug trafficking cases, which rose by 3.7% to 1,187, actually shows that law enforcement is doing more to stop drug trafficking gangs in the region.
The report also has crime rates for Alicante towns with more than 20,000 people. Last year, crime only went down in Santa Pola (-1.8%), Alcoy (-1.2%), Elda (-0.5%), and Dénia (-0.4%). On the other hand, the biggest rise in crime was in Novelda (29.4%), followed by Crevillent (20.1%), Ibi (19.8%), and Villena (16.4%).
In Alicante, where a quarter of all crimes in the province are reported (27,169 out of 111,263), crime went up by 10.7% overall. However, crimes of assault and fighting (43.4%), sexual assaults with penetration (47.1%), and robberies with force in homes, businesses, and other places (24.8%) saw the biggest increases.
