The Molino del Agua Municipal Natural Area, which is one of the city’s most popular natural areas, has been refurbished by the Torrevieja City Council.
The project has involved improving infrastructure, managing the forest, and designing a programme to replace native species. Also, some of the park’s public lighting has been updated to make it safer and more energy-efficient.
Three perspectives have been fixed up, and one of them has to be completely rebuilt since it was so badly damaged. Also, the picnic tables have been fixed, and the protective grates over the wells have been secured, which gets rid of any possible threats to users.
Clearing and trimming
Intensive clearing has also been done in places where plants were growing too close to pathways, making paths and pavements fully accessible again and making visitors safer.
The Municipal Green Team has cut back plants, staked pine trees, and taken away dead plants. The business that was hired to provide maintenance will pick up the organic garbage that has been piled up.
At the same time, the business in charge of keeping the public lighting in good shape has completely remodelled the light fixtures, replacing the old, broken globes with new ones and adding LED technology. This measure makes things easier to see and safer at night, and it also shows that the city is making progress toward becoming more environmentally friendly and saving electricity.
The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and the Councillor for Parks and Gardens, Concha Sala, went to the site to check on the work that the Municipal Green Team had just finished. During the visit, the Mayor talked about how restoring the usefulness and beauty of this famous site would not only improve the landscape, but also help protect local wildlife from invading species and the ravages of time.
Sala has said that these efforts are the beginning of a bigger plan to bring the area back to life: “We are planning a full replanting with native species, mainly stone pine and other types that are best for this ecosystem, which will replace the dead plants that can’t be saved.”
