The Sueña Torrevieja Municipal Group has asked the City Council to start a local programme called “Fuel Voucher.” This programme is meant to help the local economy deal with the effects of increased gasoline prices.
Pablo Samper, the group’s spokesperson, submitted the proposal. It calls for the formation of a direct aid programme with an initial budget of €500,000. This programme would primarily help self-employed people, small and medium-sized businesses, and professionals who need to use cars to do their jobs in the city.
Samper stressed that the project was focused on the local area
“We at Sueña Torrevieja think that local governments can’t just sit back and do nothing when there are global problems that directly affect our residents.” Now is the moment for local governments to step up and safeguard the people that keep our economy going every day.
The motion is a response to the present worldwide situation, which has caused fuel costs to rise a lot, making it more expensive to live and less competitive for local businesses.
In this regard, the spokesperson stressed that the action is meant to have an immediate effect on the local economy:
“We’re talking about taxi drivers, delivery drivers, truck drivers, small business owners… people from Torrevieja who can’t handle constant fuel price hikes without help from the government.” This voucher is a helpful, direct, and realistic tool.
The scheme would offer discounts of up to 40% on gas at participating service stations in the city. It would also encourage businesses to work together.
Samper underlined how important it is for the City Council to be in charge of these kinds of projects:
“Policies for cities must have a name and a face. It’s not about big speeches; it’s about finding real answers to real problems. “This voucher is a clear promise to our people, our economy, and Torrevieja.”
Sueña Torrevieja believes that the other municipal organisations will back the idea by appealing to their sense of duty and obligation to the people of the municipality.
