This morning, Friday March 20th, the Guardia Civil and the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium found the body of a 47-year-old Spanish man in the La Pedrera (Torremendo) reservoir in Orihuela. He had been missing for five days in the town of Fortuna in the Murcian region, and a big search had been started to find him. The research points to the water moving the body from the transfer system in the Region of Murcia to the reservoir in the municipality of Orihuela. The Guardia Civil says that no one else was involved in the man’s death.
A huge search operation was launched since the person went missing on March 15th in an area near the Tajo-Segura water transfer canal as it goes through the town of Fortuna.
The Guardia Civil has since led many searches along the water transfer route, in both the provinces of Murcia and Alicante. They have looked at tunnels, aqueducts, and open spaces. The Segura River Basin Authority (CHS) has also worked with the operation by lowering the water flow to make it easier to seek.
Seen by a drone
This morning, a Guardia Civil drone was able to find the body of a dead man in the La Pedrera reservoir, specifically in the area where the water flows into the reservoir, in the municipality of Orihuela.
Once the body was found, personnel of the Guardia Civil of Alicante’s Special Group for Underwater Activities (GEAS) quickly retrieved it. They were helped by firefighters from the Consortium.

The Guardia Civil said that all signs lead to the dead man being the one who went missing in Fortuna, and a family member has confirmed this. The Civil Guard is still looking into the details of his death. While they wait for the autopsy results, the first signs don’t point to foul play or the involvement of other people.
The Civil Guard of Alicante has used the Torrevieja Company and the Specialist Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) to help with the operation, together with the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) of Torrevieja and the drone.
