According to sources from UGT, the first day of planned strikes at Groundforce and the first two called at Menzies, which were scheduled to take place at airports throughout Spain this weekend, have been suspended by unions. This strike poses a threat to Holy Week.
The partial and indefinite strikes were scheduled to commence today, Friday March 27th, coinciding with the commencement of the Easter holiday travel period, in the instance of Globalia’s ground handling company. The CCOO, UGT, and USO unions initiated the strike in response to disputes with the company regarding wages (Two strikes in Aena’s ground handling services threaten Easter week).
The strike was indefinite and was organised in stages throughout the day. The dispute is centred on the application of the pay grades, particularly the calculation of the differential associated with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the guarantee of purchasing power that is outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
Conversely, the strike days at Menzies were scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday. This union was the sole source of their appeal, which resulted in a 24-hour suspension of all operations.
The strike at Menzies, which encompassed numerous entities within the group and involved approximately 3,000 employees, also included additional workdays from April 2nd to 6th. The union had issued a warning that the demonstrations could persist every weekend until the end of the year if no agreement was reached.
