Marcos Real State SL, also known as The Marcos Brothers, is currently under investigation by the Orihuela Public Prosecutor’s Office for alleged document falsification in connection with the acquisition of residency registrations for foreign nationals in the municipality. The Orihuela City Council filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office due to an unusual increase in registration applications associated with properties managed by this corporation. Consequently, the investigation was initiated.
The municipal statistics department has detected a substantial increase in the number of foreign residents enrolled at various properties in the municipality in recent months, as indicated by the report submitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office by the mayor, José Vegara. The aforementioned company was purportedly responsible for managing all of these registrations, which involved room rental agreements.
Ezequiel and Fabián Mardos García are purportedly the managers of Marcos Real State SL, the corporation in question. The municipal complaint alleges that the room rental contracts were employed to enable tenants to register as inhabitants of Orihuela in exchange for paying rent.
The City Council requested the Regional Police’s assistance in order to investigate the circumstance. On September 29th, 2025, officers conducted an inspection of a building located on Pintor Agrasot Street. They found that the property was devoid of fire extinguishers, an evacuation plan and safety signage, and that 16 rooms were available for rent. Additionally, the electrical infrastructure was in a state of disrepair, and the common areas were unsanitary.
Following a request for domicile verification associated with a registered address, the Local Police conducted a second inspection on November 7th, 2025. During this visit, it was discovered that the building has a high occupancy rate, with approximately 12 individuals residing on the ground floor, nine to ten on the first floor, and a comparable number on the first floor.
The police reports also exhibit significant deficiencies in sanitation and habitability, as indicated by the municipal complaint. These consist of a kitchen that is deficient in hygiene and safety standards, small rooms with mattresses on the floor, insufficient furniture and inadequate ventilation. Additionally, there is a communal bathroom that is in poor condition.
The City Council maintains that these practices may involve the fraudulent acquisition of residency registrations through the use of rental agreements, which would enable those involved to access social benefits or initiate immigration-related administrative procedures. As per the document submitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, these actions may be considered a form of document forgery, as defined in the Penal Code.
Additionally, the council believes that the company exploited the vulnerable state of foreign nationals by housing them in conditions that the municipal report itself deems “substandard” and with a level of unhygienic conditions that could endanger their safety.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office is now required to ascertain whether the reported events are criminal in nature and whether criminal proceedings should be initiated against the individuals liable for the company. In its submission to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the City Council requests an investigation into the potential commission of offences related to the registration of residents, as well as document forgery and fraudulent practices.
