A young doctor from Alicante is seriously injured after being attacked by a shark in the Maldives. Borja, 31, is spending his honeymoon in the Maldives with his bride. A shark violently attacked the young Spaniard on a boat trip, tearing off a substantial portion of his leg.
Borja, is a gynaecologist at Alicante General Hospital. The young doctor needed to be evacuated to the hospital in Malé, the country’s capital, for emergency treatment. Doctors were forced to amputate the shark-attacked limb since the blood vessels had been severely damaged.
According to sources, the newlywed is in the intensive care unit in critical condition. Due to the victim’s blood loss, the hospital has initiated a large blood transfusion routine to stabilise his vital signs while he is still on life support.
The attack took place on Koodoo Atoll, one of the Maldives’ most renowned tourist spots. The wife’s family claims that the occurrence was caused by severe negligence, and that the firm with which they booked the water activity acted carelessly, for which they have already filed a complaint.
The nature of the significant injuries is being analysed to establish the species of shark that may have carried out the assault. Speculation is that it was a spinner shark, a common species in the area, but it might possibly have been a bull shark or a great white shark.
