The local police in Torrevieja have carried out an operation resulting in the seizure of more than 300 items of allegedly counterfeit clothing following a routine traffic violation. The incident occurred when a driver failed to obey a stop sign at the junction of Avenida de la Purísima and Calle Goleta. This led to a police patrol intercepting the vehicle further along on Calle Pedro Lorca.
During the process of identifying the driver, officers discovered a large quantity of textile material inside the car. The haul included football shirts, sports trousers and swimwear bearing the logos of well-known commercial brands, all of which appeared to be of illicit origin. The driver was unable to provide any documentation to prove the legal provenance of the goods, which further raised suspicions regarding their authenticity.
Following the intervention, the driver is being investigated as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against industrial property for their involvement in the distribution of counterfeit products. The garments were confiscated and have been placed at the disposal of the courts for subsequent analysis and verification.
Police representatives have highlighted the importance of the ongoing fight against the sale of counterfeit goods. They noted that such activity not only impacts commercial brands but also poses a potential risk to consumers, as these products are not subject to standard quality and safety controls. Investigations continue to determine the exact origin of the clothing and whether this instance is linked to a larger distribution network within the region.
