A new direct bus service has been launched to connect Alicante Airport Miguel Hernández with several popular coastal and inland destinations, including La Marina, Guardamar del Segura and Rojales. This new transport link aims to provide a more affordable and convenient alternative for the thousands of residents and tourists who travel between the airport and the Vega Baja region.
The service, operated by Bus Sigüenza, is currently running under an emergency contract established by the Generalitat. This temporary measure ensures that travel requirements are met while a permanent contract is put out to tender. The route is particularly vital for the municipalities of Rojales, Guardamar del Segura and La Marina, which combined have a population of approximately 70,000 people and a high number of foreign residents.

Passengers using the new line can expect a significant reduction in travel costs compared to private transport. A typical taxi journey from the Vega Baja to the airport currently costs an average of 55 euro, whereas the new bus fare is approximately 5 euro per person. This price point makes the service accessible for daily commuters and holidaymakers alike.
According to the current winter schedule, buses depart from Alicante Airport three times a day at 10:00, 13:00 and 16:30. The return journey from Almoradí, which also serves these locations, leaves at 07:15 and 11:30. Authorities have indicated that the frequency of these services is likely to increase during the peak summer months of July and August to accommodate the seasonal influx of visitors.
The Mayor of Guardamar, José Luis Sáez, welcomed the announcement, noting that the local council has also been working with the Regional Ministry of Infrastructure to ensure regular bus links to the Torrevieja University Hospital. This broader focus on public transport is designed to improve connectivity for residents across the region, especially in areas like Formentera del Segura and La Marina where alternative transport options can be limited.
