The Department of Infrastructure of Orihuela City Council is set to carry out new resurfacing and road safety improvement works in the district of La Campaneta. The project aims to repair various damaged sections and improve traffic flow in one of the busiest areas of the urban centre.
The planned works will focus specifically on Camino Viejo de Almoradí and Calle Vega Baja, where residents had previously raised several complaints regarding the poor condition of the pavement and the presence of potholes. Furthermore, local residents heavily use these routes to access the local school and several residential areas.
Víctor Valverde, the Councillor for Infrastructure, explained that the council is continuing to take action in the districts by addressing the real needs of residents and improving roads that had deteriorated significantly due to the passage of time and daily use. The councillor also noted that this intervention will allow for the elimination of potholes, improve the driving surface, and offer greater safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
The works include resurfacing, pothole repairs, and horizontal road markings. Additionally, the project involves raising manhole covers to the new road level and repainting parallel and battery parking zones to better organise traffic and improve the area’s functionality. There are also plans to install three new street lighting points connected to the existing network.
In Calle Vega Baja, work will be carried out on a stretch approximately 150 metres long with an average width of 8.5 metres, as well as the access esplanade from the CV-91, covering a total surface area of nearly 2,025 square metres.
The project has a total budget of 23,742.87 euro, including VAT, and an estimated execution period of one month from the start of the works. Valverde highlighted that the goal is to continue making progress in the improvement of the municipality’s infrastructure.
