The three deaths of a Guardia Civil officer, his wife, and their son that were discovered in a home in the Dolores barracks last Saturday, 16th May, were autopsied, confirming the gender-based crime that was the primary focus of the inquiry.
According to sources familiar with the case, it was said yesterday, Tuessday 19th May, that is the conclusion of the forensic investigation conducted on the lifeless bodies of Marisol, 51, her son Alberto, 24, and Mariano, 55, who allegedly shot the first two in separate rooms before shooting himself in the head in a different room.
The autopsies were performed at the Institute of Legal Medicine of Alicante, and it is anticipated that the duty court, number 3 of Orihuela, which handled the case, may soon be able to disqualify itself in favour of another that specialises in gender violence.
Since the couple had been residents of Dolores since 1996, the femicide has been the main focus of the investigation, which has caused great distress in the community since the family was well-known and cherished. Originally from Ibiza, Marisol, a school bus driver and monitor, relocated to Dolores with her husband from Jaén, who had established there that same year as a Guardia Civil officer upon his academy graduation. Despite working in a workshop in Catral, their son was born and educated in Dolores. The family had developed close social links in this municipality, which has about 8,500 residents and is in the centre of the Vega Baja agricultural region, despite not being originally from the town.
When locals saw the Guardia Civil officer’s obituary throughout Tuesday, their initial concern turned to indignation. The poster specifically announces Mariano’s death at the age of 55. It was distributed on Monday, during the third day of official mourning ordered by the City Council, and went viral yesterday. It states that “His family requests prayers for the eternal rest of his soul and attendance at the mass and subsequent burial,” which will take place this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of the La Siempreviva funeral home in Alicante. Two days later, on Thursday, despite requests from the town where she had lived for the last thirty years.
This Tuesday, relatives and acquaintances are also distributing a request for a memorial mass for Marisol and Alberto. “There are smiles that are never forgotten, and yours will remain forever as a reflection of the love and light you left in our lives. Your friends and all of us who were lucky enough to know you will never forget you” is the heartfelt message that ends the mass, which will take place this Friday at 8 p.m. in the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Violence against women
The number of female victims would reach 20 so far this year and 1,361 since 2003 if the Government Delegation for Gender Violence confirms this case as a gender-based homicide.
The phone number 016 and the email address 016-online@igualdad are two services that victims of gender abuse and their families can contact around-the-clock for assistance.gob.es and the 600 000 016 WhatsApp channel.
