A neighbourhood dispute in Alicante over complaints about a loud party that had been going on since the previous day ended on Sunday morning, 14th June, with a brawl between a Spanish man, who fired several shots, and eight young Colombians. The confrontation began when the Spaniard asked his neighbours to keep quiet at 8:00 am. Three people were injured, none by gunfire, and the National Police have made nine arrests, including the shooter and the three injured individuals, according to sources close to the police investigation.
The incident took place in the Juan XXIII Segundo Sector neighbourhood of Alicante. At around 8:00 am, the National Police emergency call centre received reports of a knife fight between a Spanish citizen and several South Americans on Beniardá Street. Several patrol cars from the Citizen Assistance Group of the Citizen Security Brigade rushed to the scene and, upon arrival, officers heard several gunshots.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found numerous agitated people in the street, some of whom were bleeding. Amidst a scene littered with stones, broken glass, bloodstains, and several vehicles with bullet holes, the officers ordered everyone to remain still. When officers directed blame for the shooting at a Spanish citizen who was inside his home, several police officers went up to the residence.
The officers ordered the man to come outside, and after asking him where the weapon was, he told them it was on the balcony next to a knife. The National Police seized a 9mm Glock pistol from the detainee, who then tried to explain what had happened with his neighbours in the next house. He claimed they had been partying since 4:00 pm on Saturday, and at around 8:00 am on Sunday, he asked them to be quiet because the music was too loud and his children could not sleep.
From that moment on, a neighbourhood dispute erupted, with residents shouting from one balcony to another. The Spanish man claimed he feared they were going to jump over the fence and enter his home, so he fired several shots. He also alleged that he received various death threats from his neighbours, who threatened to slit his wife’s throat and dismember his children.
Both the shooter and his neighbours—four men and four women of Colombian origin—were arrested for the altercation and taken to the Alicante Provincial Police Station, where the Violent Crime Unit of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade is conducting the investigation. Three of those arrested were taken to a medical centre for treatment of injuries, none of which were gunshot wounds, according to sources close to the case.
