Almoradi Council has officially inaugurated the comprehensive renovation works at CEIP Canales y Martinez, the oldest educational centre in the municipality, which serves a total of 715 pupils across infant and primary education. The project, executed through the Valencian Regional Government’s Edificant programme, involved an investment of nearly 2.2 million euro and has completely transformed facilities that possess almost half a century of history.
The Mayor of Almoradi, Maria Gomez, alongside the Councillor for Education, Susana Miralles, members of the government team, Education Inspector Manuel Albadalejo, and the school’s management team led by director Luis Ballester, visited the renovated site this morning. Representatives from the educational community also joined to inspect the final results of a major construction project that has successfully run alongside daily teaching activities for a year and a half.
Luis Ballester, director of CEIP Canales y Martinez, highlighted the massive effort made throughout the entire process. “Today is a very special day. The works have finally finished. It has been a year and a half of hard work for both the company and ourselves as a school, as we had to organise things so that everything would run smoothly. The important thing is that we now have a school in much better condition than before, and the entire educational community will be able to enjoy these improvements,” he noted.
The works have brought about a genuine transformation of the school, across both its interior and exterior areas. Key improvements include full air conditioning across all classrooms, the complete renewal of carpentry, a modernised electrical installation, renovated toilets, and the installation of a lift alongside new accessibility measures to make the school fully adapted. Furthermore, toilets have been integrated directly inside the classrooms in the infant education section, making daily care easier for the youngest pupils without them needing to go out into the corridors. Outside, pupils can now enjoy a brand-new covered pavilion, which stands out as one of the major achievements of the project.

The Councillor for Education, Susana Miralles, praised the collaborative effort that made the project possible. “There were many steps and many bodies involved: the regional ministry, the council, the educational centre, and the businesses. We have all collaborated so that we can debut this reality today. It is beautiful to see the pupils enjoying a new gymnasium and such significant upgrades like the air conditioning, which has already brought a major change to the daily life of the school.”
The Mayor of Almoradi, Maria Gomez, emphasized the importance of completing the town’s first project under the Edificant programme. “It is great news for Almoradi and for the whole school community. We have managed to completely rehabilitate a school opened in 1977, providing full accessibility, new sports facilities, air conditioning, and spaces adapted to modern needs. Balancing construction with school activity required a huge effort from everyone, but today we see that targets are met,” she stated.
Gomez also reminded residents that this is the second public school in the municipality to feature full air conditioning, whilst emphasizing the human value of the project. “Seeing the impact this transformation has on those who experience the school every day is priceless. Almost fifty years after the first pupils walked into this school, new generations will be able to enjoy modern, accessible facilities prepared to offer the best education possible.”
With this intervention, Almoradi Council reaffirms its commitment to upgrading educational infrastructure across the municipality, opting for safer, more efficient, inclusive spaces adapted to the needs of the pupils and the wider educational community.
