Two people tragically drowned on Sunday afternoon, 21st June, at beaches in the Alicante municipalities of Pilar de la Horadada and Torrevieja, according to information released by the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU). In both instances, post-mortem examinations will be carried out to officially confirm the exact causes of the drownings.
The first incident occurred at Mil Palmeras beach in Pilar de la Horadada. Health sources explained that emergency services were alerted at 7.40 pm after a 24-year-old man was pulled from the water in an unconscious state. The CICU immediately mobilised a Mobile Emergency Medical Service (SAMU) unit and a Basic Life Support (SVB) unit to the scene.
Upon arrival, the SAMU medical team performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other advanced life support techniques on the bather. Despite their extensive efforts, there was no response, and the man was confirmed dead at the scene.
The second drowning took place earlier on Sunday afternoon in a cove in Torrevieja. The initial emergency call was received at 4.45 pm after an unconscious man was rescued from the water. A SAMU unit was deployed to the location, where the medical team attempted to resuscitate the bather. As with the first incident, there was no response to the treatment, and his death was confirmed. The age of the second victim has not yet been made available.
