The Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia has arrested two suspected burglars in the municipality of Torrevieja. The arrests conclude an investigation under the “Plan against robberies in homes”, codenamed operation “Meganred”, which was launched to solve a burglary in Caravaca de la Cruz.
Officers from the Guardia Civil Citizen Security Prevention units began their work last April after a resident of Caravaca de la Cruz filed a report regarding a burglary at his property. The victim informed the officers that several individuals had forced entry into the house to steal valuables. However, whilst committing the crime, the perpetrators were surprised by a neighbour, causing them to flee the scene hastily without completing the theft.
Detectives from the Investigation Area took charge of the case to identify and arrest those responsible. A detailed forensic inspection and initial inquiries at the property confirmed that entry had been forced. Officers also gathered crucial clues, including the modus operandi and details regarding the vehicles used by the suspects.
Following several weeks of investigation, officers identified multiple individuals who allegedly formed a criminal group. This group was based and living in the Alicante municipality of Torrevieja, where investigators managed to track down their addresses.
A search operation was established, resulting in the location and arrest of two suspects for the alleged crime of burglary. The Guardia Civil is keeping the investigation open to look into the suspects’ connection to a motor vehicle theft, and further arrests or links to other criminal acts have not been ruled out.
