The National Police have arrested a man in Alicante and are searching for a second suspect following the stabbing of a man during a fight on a bus in Palma.
According to a statement from the police headquarters, the incident took place on 5th June when a man was listening to music on a bus without headphones. He was challenged by two men as well as the driver of the vehicle, who asked him to get off.
Upon leaving the bus, the two young men who had confronted him began to assault him, and the man defended himself. After the fight, the victim noticed he was bleeding from various parts of his body, as he had not realised during the confrontation that one of them had stabbed him with a sharp object.
It was at that moment that the attackers demanded his mobile phone. When he refused to hand it over, the suspects got back onto the bus and fled the scene. National Police officers arrived at the location but were unable to find the alleged perpetrators.
Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim had to be transferred to a hospital, where he received several stitches to various parts of his body, including his left thigh, abdomen and right shoulder.
Following the incident, the National Police Homicide Group launched an investigation to locate and identify the suspects. Investigators took statements from witnesses and gathered information provided by the victim, which allowed them to identify both alleged attackers.
Furthermore, officers carried out extensive enquiries to fully clarify the facts and established that the attackers had left the island for different destinations. National Police officers eventually located one of the men in Alicante, where he was arrested on 16 June. The investigation remains open to find and arrest the second man involved in the assault.
