The La Mata and Torrelamata Residents’ Association has submitted a series of proposals to the Generalitat Valenciana to improve the suburban bus service connecting Guardamar del Segura, La Mata, the Torrevieja University Hospital, and Pilar de la Horadada.
The neighbourhood group points out that this service, which launched on 1st April under the regional contract CE-704, is managed by the Generalitat and operates independently of the new urban transport service recently launched by Torrevieja Council.
While the association welcomes the direct link between La Mata and Torrevieja University Hospital, it believes several adjustments are needed to meet user demands.
Key proposals sent to the regional administration include bringing the departure time of the first morning bus forward by fifteen minutes. The association argues this change would help workers and patients with early appointments reach the hospital before 8:00 am.
Additionally, the group suggests establishing a stop at Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital. They argue this addition would improve access to the medical centre without significantly disrupting the route, as it sits directly alongside the N-332 road.
Another request focuses on bringing the bus route closer to the centre of La Mata. The association notes that current stops are located next to the N-332, forcing passengers to cross a flyover to reach them, creating difficulties for elderly residents and people with reduced mobility.
The submission also highlights a need to upgrade the shelters and stops along the main road, describing their current condition as poor and noting a lack of up-to-date timetable, route, and frequency information.
Finally, the association is calling for the restoration and maintenance of the pedestrian underpass below the N-332 flyover, which provides access to both the bus stops and the Las Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja Natural Park.
Neighbourhood representatives emphasised that these five proposals aim to enhance accessibility and convenience, maximising the value of a service they consider highly beneficial to residents.
