Torrevieja is transforming its port area into an open-air art gallery with the introduction of three monumental sculptures by Manolo Valdés, one of Spain’s most internationally renowned contemporary artists. The initiative, titled ‘Art comes to meet you. Three sculptures by Manolo Valdés in Torrevieja’, is being promoted by the Hozono Global Group in collaboration with Torrevieja City Council, and will run until 31st October 2027.
Designed to engage directly with the town, the seascape, and everyday life, the exhibition features three notable sculptures: Reina Mariana, Clio Silver, and Ariela. These will be installed progressively along an accessible, open route to encourage residents, visitors, and tourists to experience the urban landscape of Torrevieja from a new perspective.
The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, presented the cultural scheme alongside Manuel Martínez Ortuño, president of the Hozono Global Group, and Belén Herrera, a representative of the Opera Gallery. According to Martínez Ortuño, the initiative aims to build shared spaces through culture and add a fresh experience to journeys through the town. Mayor Dolón added that the town hall is continuously working to make Torrevieja an increasingly attractive destination, with its cultural offerings providing valuable additions to the town’s most iconic spaces.
The exhibition is unfolding in two distinct phases. The first phase has commenced with the installation of Reina Mariana. On 8th October 2026, the sculptural ensemble will be completed with the addition of Clio Silver and Ariela.
The pieces reflect the artist’s focus on the reinterpretation of art history, the monumentality of sculpture, and the power of materials to alter their environment. Reina Mariana, an aluminium piece created in 2019, offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the portrait of Queen Mariana of Austria by Diego Velázquez. Clio Silver, sculpted in 2021 from polished aluminium and stainless steel, stands as the largest piece in the collection and is designed to interact dynamically with changing daylight. Completing the exhibition is Ariela, a single-piece aluminium sculpture from 2019 that offers a more contained scale while maintaining Valdés’s characteristic formal presence.

Because of a lack of shade now in this area, a marquee, chairs and refreshments were brought for the VIPs at the unveiling.
