National Police officers have arrested a 48-year-old man in Torrellano, a district of Elche, who was subject to a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Polish authorities for crimes of document forgery and receiving stolen goods related to vehicles. The fugitive was wanted for crimes committed between 2014 and 2017 in Spain and Poland, for which he could face a sentence of up to five years in prison.
The European arrest warrant was communicated to the National Police of Alicante through the International Fugitives Group of the General Police Headquarters, after the authorities became aware that the man might be in the province. The investigators then began their search to find out his whereabouts and managed to locate him in Torrellano, where he was arrested.
Forged contracts and a stolen vehicle Polish authorities accuse the detainee of falsifying vehicle purchase and sale contracts, in which he allegedly entered false data and simulated the seller’s signature before handing the documentation over to the buyers. He is also charged with receiving stolen goods for having acquired from third parties a stolen vehicle whose chassis number had been altered after the theft. Subsequently, the suspect allegedly transferred possession of the vehicle to another person in order to facilitate its sale.
Possible breach of sentence After the arrest, the officers also verified that the man had a current restraining order prohibiting him from approaching the exact location where he was found. The National Police have informed the court of these events due to the possible commission of a crime of breach of sentence. The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court, which is in charge of processing his subsequent extradition to the Polish authorities.
