The Local Police located the relatives of the deceased person whose funerary urn had been stored in a locker at a local supermarket in Benidorm. Officers succeeded in returning the vessel after successfully identifying the family members by conducting queries through police databases.
Spokesperson for the Local Police, Quique Tortosa, explained that initial public appeals made on social media platforms and through media outlets failed to yield results. Officials were eventually able to trace the relatives directly using official records.
According to police sources, the family had intentionally left the urn inside the supermarket locker because they considered it a safe place while undertaking renovation work on their home. The relatives were unaware that the locker had been opened by supermarket staff.
The urn was originally discovered on Monday, 3rd August, by the store manager during a routine check of customer lockers. Following the discovery, the store alerted the authorities, prompting the Local Police to launch an investigation to identify the owners. Before tracing the family through database searches, officers had stated that if the owners could not be found, the ashes would be moved to the municipal cemetery.
