According to figures released by consumer association Facua-Consumidores en Acción, if the electricity prices recorded during the first fortnight of August continue for the remainder of the month, the average household bill on the regulated PVPC tariff will reach 101.23 euro.
This represents a 17.3% increase compared to August 2025, when the average monthly bill stood at 86.31 euro. You would have to go back to August 2022, when the average bill hit 158.30 euro amidst the wider energy crisis, to find a higher figure for the same month.
The price surge has affected all billing time slots. During the first fortnight of August, the average price per kilowatt-hour (kWh), including indirect taxes, reached 27.74 cents during peak hours, 19.29 cents during flat hours, and 21.34 cents during off-peak hours. Compared to the same period in August 2025, energy prices have risen by 13.9% in peak times, 21.7% in flat times, and 37.1% during off-peak times.
If the trend holds, August will become the second most expensive month of the year so far, following July’s average bill of 93.65 euro. This marks an 8.1% increase month-on-month. Prior to this summer rise, March had registered the next highest average bill of the year at 82.09 euro, while the last time a bill exceeded current projections was in December 2025, when households paid an average of 87 euro.
Facua bases its calculations on an average consumer profile with a contracted power capacity of 4.4 kW in both peak and off-peak periods, consuming 366 kWh of electricity per month.
