Four years after construction began on Concepción Street in the heart of Torrevieja, a new 4.8 million euro building hosting water company Agamed and a combined University Headquarters was officially inaugurated.
Funded by Agamed through a surface rights agreement, the building will revert to municipal ownership at the end of 2028. Its location in the urban centre allows over 430 students easy access by public transport and places academic life close to local services.
The University Headquarters occupies the second and third floors, attic, and roof. It features 12 classrooms across various skill levels, management and teaching staff offices, a secretariat and concierge, meeting room, academic coordination spaces, multipurpose room, student common areas, and a roof-top university agora designed for outdoor events, presentations, and conferences.

Three institutions are expanding their presence in the town through the new facility:
- The University of Alicante (UA) will offer courses, specialised degrees, continuing education programmes, university extension activities, conferences, and local research projects.
- The Miguel Hernández University (UMH) will introduce its bilingual Official Degree in Management and Administration of Tourism Businesses and Activities in face-to-face and online formats. It will also develop activities for the Habanera Chair and Gastronomy Chair.
- The UNED will expand its degree offerings, university access courses, programmes, and tutorials, while strengthening its psychology programme and blended learning for Early Childhood Education.
Agamed will operate from the ground and first floors. The ground floor houses a modern public service area with interactive zones explaining the water cycle. The overall site provides capacity for 50 workstations, alongside technical offices, a boardroom, servers, and a remote control centre.
Torrevieja City Council spent over 347,000 euros equipping the university section, including over 260,000 euros on furniture and 87,000 euros on technology such as 40 laptops and 14 interactive digital displays. Designed with energy efficiency, sustainability, and accessibility in mind, the site features photovoltaic installations to cut energy and water consumption.
Mayor Eduardo Dolón noted that the joint presence of all three universities enables expanded local opportunities without students having to travel outside Torrevieja.
