Torrevieja is marking World Tourism Day with a broad programme of events taking place between 25th and 27th September. Organised by the local council, the calendar combines guided tours, nature initiatives, sports, local gastronomy, and environmental awareness, highlighting the municipality’s key attractions.
The municipal schedule aligns with the 2026 UN Tourism theme, “Digital agenda and artificial intelligence to redesign tourism”, which focuses on bringing innovation into the sector while retaining ties to local culture, territory, environmental education, and public involvement.
Events begin on Friday 25th September from 9am to 11am with a dual-language guided visit in Spanish and English to the Fish Market (Lonja). The meeting point is at the market itself, with places capped at 50 participants, meaning advance registration at the Tourist Office is required.
On Saturday 26th September, the University of Alicante will run outdoor workshops titled “Biodiversity and video games for more sustainable tourism” from 9.30am to 2pm at its premises in the AGAMED building on Calle Concepción. At 10am, an eco-route titled “A vineyard of sand and salt” departs from the Information Centre of the La Mata and Torrevieja Lagoons Natural Park. Places are limited to 50 people, with booking required.
The Saturday line-up also features International Tapas Day, organised by the Torrevieja Hospitality Association (AEHTC). In addition, the Floating Museums will host an open day from 9.30am to 1pm, whilst the Sea and Salt Museum opens free of charge from 10am to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm.
On Sunday 27th September, a dramatised route titled “The salty history of the lagoons” takes place from 10am to 12pm in the natural park near the cemetery, offering insights into the history of the salt flats. The activity is capped at 50 attendees, requiring prior sign-up. Sports activities at Playa de Los Locos include Body Combat from 9.30am to 10.15am and Zumba from 10.30am to 11.15am, organised alongside the Sports Department and ViveFit Sport Center. The University of Alicante will also repeat its workshops on biodiversity and video games along Paseo Juan Aparicio from 9.30am to 1pm.
The Department of Tourism has coordinated these events alongside the Fishermen’s Guild, the University of Alicante, the Joaquín Chapaprieta Municipal Institute of Culture, the Sports Department, ViveFit Sport Center, and the Ars Creatio cultural association.
Tourism Councillor Rosario Martínez has encouraged residents and visitors to join in the events and rediscover Torrevieja through its maritime and salt heritage, natural areas, culture, and gastronomy.
