A seventy-year-old man has died after becoming trapped beneath a tractor in a rural area of Benigembla, specifically in the Daimés district. According to the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of the Alicante Provincial Council, the alert was received at 15:39 yesterday, Saturday 3rd OOctober, after the man’s wife raised the alarm.
A forestry firefighter unit, a rescue group with the MV9-R helicopter, and personnel from the Dénia fire station were dispatched to the scene. However, the units were ultimately stood down without intervening, as the man had already passed away by the time they arrived.
Later that afternoon, at 18:02, firefighters received reports of a blaze in an 18-storey residential building located on carrer Mestre Espí in Alcoy. Information provided by the Consortium indicated that smoke appeared to be coming from the top floor via the roof terrace, while a neighbour warned that the building was being evacuated.
Local Police officers at the scene requested medical assistance for two officers affected by smoke inhalation. The Consortium reported at 20:31 that firefighters were withdrawing from the fire and that the flat had been completely gutted by the flames.
The third incident occurred when a worker was hurt by smoke inhalation following a fire at a restaurant in La Mata, Torrevieja. The incident caused a scare late on Saturday afternoon when a blaze broke out, seemingly originating in a kitchen fryer, which forced the urgent evacuation of both customers and staff from the premises.
Emergency services responded to the scene to tackle the fire and manage the situation. The intervention was successfully concluded shortly after 20:15 hours, following the completion of relevant ventilation work within the establishment and confirmation from emergency crews that all danger had been entirely neutralised.
