Two twenty-five-year-olds died on Saturday afternoon, 3rd October, after drowning at a beach in the Alicante municipality of Guardamar del Segura while they were reportedly swimming under a red flag warning.
According to the Guardia Civil, which has taken charge of the investigation, the victims were two foreign tourists—a man and a woman, both twenty-five years of age—who were pulled from the water by several people shortly after 14:00 on Saturday before emergency services were alerted.
The Information and Coordination Centre for Emergencies mobilised two units of the emergency medical service and a basic life support unit, which rushed to Els Vivers beach in Guardamar del Segura.
Medical personnel performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres on the pair but ultimately could only confirm their deaths at the scene.
Sources close to the investigation indicated that the victims were of Ukrainian nationality and resided in Poland.
