Torrevieja is set to host Orlander’s inaugural autumn retreat on the Costa Blanca from October 9th to 12th. The initiative is aimed at adult gay men and will bring together 30 participants, focusing on emotional well-being, coexistence, and the creation of personal bonds.
For four days, the community will offer a packed programme combining social activities, nature experiences, and psychology workshops. The initiative aims to provide a peaceful and supportive environment where participants can disconnect, share experiences, and build relationships that will last beyond the gathering.
The proceedings will begin with a presentation activity called speed friending, designed to help participants get to know each other, break the ice, and share personal stories in a relaxed environment.
The natural and urban environment of Torrevieja will also form part of the experience. Participants will take an eco-tour through the Lagunas de La Mata Natural Park and enjoy a guided tour of the city. These activities will be complemented by an Orlander dance class with Sergio Toyos and a costume party designed to further foster camaraderie among those attending.
Workshops to address loneliness and strengthen personal bonds
Psychologist Navin Daswani will lead the workshop “The Wounds of Loneliness”, dedicated to addressing this experience from the perspective of emotional well-being. Additionally, Pedro Afif will lead a psychological activity focused on belonging and community.
The programme will also include a story circle, providing a space where those who wish can share their experiences with the group. These activities are complemented by the Rainbow Point, which the organisation presents as a reliable channel for ongoing support to maintain contact and the connections forged during the gathering.
An active community since 2018
According to data provided by the organisation, Orlander has been active since 2018 and has brought together more than 2,500 Spanish gay men across 25 editions of its retreats, six open days, and activities carried out in nine municipalities.
The organisation notes that, in its Orlando Emotional Wellbeing Test, administered to over 500 Spanish gay men, approximately 70% of participants reported feeling emotionally isolated. Furthermore, the community and belonging dimension received the lowest score of the eight areas assessed.
The Torrevieja retreat aims to respond to this need for encounter through a shared experience that facilitates mutual support, personal expression, and the building of lasting relationships.
