The Sueña Torrevieja Municipal Group, through its spokesperson, Pablo Samper, has voted in favour of the City Council’s General Budget for 2027, after obtaining the approval of its eight amendments, aimed at improving public services and addressing specific needs of the residents.
Samper has defended this position as a sign of consistency with the municipalist project of Sueña Torrevieja, which is far removed from partisan confrontation and focused on achieving results for the city.
The eight approved amendments include:
- Sustainable taxation: bonuses of up to 75% on vehicle tax for vehicles with ZERO and ECO labels.
- Housing: the “Torrevieja Alquila Seguro” programme to facilitate access to regular rental housing.
- Animal welfare: 30,000 euros in veterinary aid for families with economic difficulties.
- Local employment: 30,000 euros to encourage the hiring of unemployed people from the municipality.
- Grassroots sport: up to 50,000 euros for improvements to the Joaquín García «Nito» football field, subject to availability of remaining funds.
- Public spaces: 50,000 euros of planned investments to create and improve dog areas.
- Electric mobility: promotion of new public charging points, without creating a specific spending item.
- Support for coeliac sufferers: 25,000 euros for aid intended to compensate for the extra cost of gluten-free food.
Samper emphasised that these measures combine social improvements, employment, sustainability and municipal facilities, taking advantage of existing resources and maintaining budgetary responsibility criteria.
Sueña Torrevieja recalls that in 2025 it voted against the budgets due to economic disagreements, while in 2026 it supported them after incorporating proposals such as aid for school supplies, sports improvements and accessibility measures.
In 2027, it voted in favour again after securing the approval of its eight amendments.
“We haven’t changed our principles; we’re applying the same principles to different circumstances. Our criterion has always been to defend the general interest,” Samper stated.
Pablo Samper has insisted that Sueña Torrevieja does not bring the confrontational dynamics of national politics to the City Council and that its independence allows it to reach agreements without renouncing its principles.
“The People’s Party has an absolute majority and does not need our vote to approve the budget. Precisely for that reason, our support is voluntary and responds exclusively to the improvements we have achieved for Torrevieja.”
For the municipalist group, being in opposition does not mean systematically voting against the government, but rather overseeing, proposing alternatives and supporting decisions that benefit the municipality, regardless of who presents them.
Sueña Torrevieja emphasises that its vote in favour does not constitute a blank check for the governing team. The party will continue to scrutinise municipal management and demand the effective implementation of the eight approved amendments, as well as last year’s agreements, which have launched the school supply aid programme for families, accessibility improvements and road resurfacing, and the creation of new taxi licences. The renovation project for the Vicente García municipal stadium remains pending.
“Just as important as including a proposal in the budget is verifying that it is implemented afterwards. We will continue to scrutinise every euro and demand results.”
“Our commitment is to Torrevieja. We will know when to vote against something and when to vote in favour because being in opposition also means getting the things our city needs done.”
