The Guardia Civil has taken a 62-year-old man into custody as the person they think stole from three patient rooms at the Torrevieja hospital in Alicante. The hospital’s private security agency helped make the arrest feasible. Two reports of thefts at the Torrevieja hospital led to the start of the investigation.
Investigators were able to find the culprit thanks to the hospital’s help and the review of security camera material. The recordings showed the person, who wore a baseball cap to hide his face and appeared to use his mobile phone, walking through the hallways, picking rooms, and entering them when the victims weren’t there, were asleep, or were having medical testing. He then exited the rooms with his stolen goods disguised in his jacket.
Looking at the complaints showed a clear pattern that pointed to the conduct of one person, who stole personal items while patients weren’t around or were especially weak. The person lived in Elche and has a history of doing the same thing.
The hospital’s security agency called the police again on the morning of March 3rd after seeing the person steal again.
Later investigations showed that all of the victims were elderly foreigners. The man who was caught mostly stole expensive electronics, such tablets and mobile phones. He even stole a bag of medical supplies from one of the victims, which she needed for her medical care.
After the necessary steps were taken, the detainee was handed over to the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance of Torrevieja, which ordered his release with conditions.
