An 83-year-old hiker was rescued by helicopter yesterday morning, Wednesday May 13th, after becoming injured in the mountains near Tormos. The Provincial Firefighters Consortium received an emergency call at 10:00 am reporting that the man had been hurt on a mountain path.
The hiker had suffered a twisted ankle which prevented him from continuing his journey on foot. Due to the difficult access of the terrain, a specialised air evacuation was required. The operation involved a rescue helicopter and the GER, the Special Rescue Group.
Upon locating the man, a rescuer descended using a harness and successfully lifted him into the hovering aircraft using a crane. The hiker was then flown to the Dénia fire station landing pad, where medical services were waiting to provide treatment.
