Ten men of Algerian origin have been detained on land after arriving by small boat at the Tío Ximo cove in Benidorm. Nine of the individuals are adults, while the tenth may be under 18 years of age and will undergo medical testing to confirm his age.
According to sources from the National Police, the ten men arrived early in the morning on a small vessel. The landing took place in the area of the Tío Ximo cove, a rocky location situated at one end of the Benidorm coastline that sees little foot traffic compared to the town’s main beaches.
A group of witnesses alerted authorities early in the day after spotting several people climbing up from the cove. This citizen warning enabled a police operation to deploy swiftly in the area to locate the group as quickly as possible.
National Police officers intercepted the men as they advanced through the surroundings of the Tío Ximo cove. All ten individuals were subsequently transferred to the Benidorm National Police station under arrest, where standard identification and assistance protocols were initiated.
In the same stretch of coastline, an empty boat had previously been spotted drifting between the Tío Ximo cove and Punta Cavall. Locating the unmanned vessel enabled officers to connect the arrival of the ten men to the craft.
The alleged minor will undergo specific medical tests to determine his actual age. Depending on the results, officers will follow the established protocol for unaccompanied foreign minors or the standard framework for adults entering Spanish territory irregularly.
