According to Joaquin Albaladejo, the Councillor for Innovation and Information, the City of Torrevieja is introducing a number of wifi zones across the region which will be available to members of the public as well as Municipal Civil Servants and those officials who are responsible for Public Safety and Civil Protection.
Municipal wifi is already available in the city library as well as the tourist office and the Cultural Centre but in this day and age he said that introduction of these new internet portals is in response to the greater functional needs of the people and will allow even more residents the opportunity to access the electronic information systems provided by the town hall..
It is planned to introduce the first phase within a month or so. This will be a pilot project which will run for a period of 12 months during which public and governmental response will be assessed. Subject to satisfactory results the second phase will see the introduction of a large network offering free internet access on Plaza de la Constitución, Paseo Vista Alegre, Plaza de Oriente, Plaza de Encarnación Puchol in the village of La Mata and the sports fields near the Palacio de los Deportes Infanta Cristina. Also during the four summer months a wifi service will be offered in la Playa de Los Náufragos and la Playa del Cura.
The service will be provided by authorized local operator, Television Costa Blanca SL and the cost of this contract for the first year of service 17,990 euros plus VAT.
Albaladejo said that the project can also include free access to local trades people, sports, and other local associations and he is keen to receive applications from those groups that are interested in being included in this offer. "In this way we want to give maximum visibility to local services and associations so as to enable citizens to be informed of all activities which will hopefully ensure that and that public participation is much more effective.
